Korg ER-1 MKII

KORG ER-1 ELECTRIBE R MKII , analog modeling rhythms synthesizer, 256 patterns, max. 35700 events, analog in.

Korg has released "mark II" versions of two Electribe models, the ELECTRIBE A mkII Analog Modeled Synth and the ELECTRIBE R mkII Rhythm Synthesizer. Both feature enhanced soundsets, additional sound sculpting features, and a new look.

The ELECTRIBE R mkII (ER-1 mkII) combines a four-part DSP-based synthesizer with four additional PCM sound sources, providing classic hi-hat and cymbal tones. This combination results in a warmer, more modulatable voice than sampled-only drum boxes. The ER-1mkII's synth voices include waveform modulation, amp, and panning parameters. The all-new Cross Modulation function enhances sound creation possibilities as well. Users can gate two tracks of incoming audio in time with a pattern to create new effects and grooves. Effects include low boost for booming low-end, normal or tempo delay settings. A Motion Sequencer function allows users to record a given knob movement per part for capturing expressive filter sweeps and other sound changes.

Both ELECTRIBE models offer a 16-step pattern grid for creating parts as well as real-time recording. Included are 256 patterns, with a new preload focused on the latest dance and urban musical styles. Patterns can be strung together and saved as a Song (16 Songs are also provided). Patterns can be from one to four measures long and can also be played live from the step keys.

Both units are MIDI capable and can be used as tone generators when triggered from an external keyboard, drum pad, or sequencer. They output MIDI clock, note, and controller information for easy interfacing with other gear. Both have clean, intuitive interfaces with multiple buttons that light up to show which part is selected and what rhythm it is programmed to play, as well as a host of real-time knobs and controls.

MSRP for both the the EA-1 mkII and ER-1 mkII is $400.00

A LONG COMMENT about the very first Electribes - The first two electribes ever, debuted together in music stores back around 1996. These 2 were the red trimmed ER-1 and the blue trimmed EA-1 they quickly became very popular. The red and silver ER-1 Electribe was a Rythmn machine that was actually much more than your typical drum machine. You can't go wrong with the ER-1 / EA-1 or the Mark II versions(this page's review) the ER-1 MKII / EA-1 MKII these first two Electribes and their MKII versions are the foundation of the entire electribe line. These early machines are not necessarily the most powerful Electribes out of the entire line but I think most of us who remember the debut of these 2 back in 1996 and have followed each new model(which include many more than just these 4) will agree these first designs are some of the best ones and def the most analoge sounding of the electribes. With any of the Electribe's their analog impersonation is obvious. They don't hide their digital resources but thats not necessarily a bad characteristic because Korg used the resouces very nicely for what could have been a average drum machine. Something they def were much more than. Even so to a experienced user of analog synths and drum boxes the analog mimicking is obviously digitally "enhanced".You see I don't think Korg was out to fool anyone into thinking it was a new all analog box. Instead they made it have digital clarity with analog coolness and some great knobs for filter manipulation. Electribes are not true analog they can even get grainy at times but these boxes can serve up the coolest sounds (I think at tiimes similar to my 1st version Nord Lead. The ER-1/MKII and EA-1/MKII are already true classics that were made back in the times of live sets and mixing with vinyl. Thats what Electribes were made for and I say forget using the MIDI (although available)and get a old Akai or EMU sampler and tweak/sample tweak/sample to make some excellent loops or melodys for your own original twist Electribe goodness to your productions. For the price you can get them for now,(originaly 399)these are a great investment, super fun and are most still fully functional. Even with no budget you can grab one of them or buy one at a time and really have the start of something cool, just watch kids on youtube going live with a Electribe or 2,a cheap synth and a kaossilator...man some of those techno guys will make you go WHOA! I think Electribes of all types are some of Korgs best more modern inventions/its cool to have 1or2,I have 3,EA1,EA1MKII,ER1-MKII
