Roland TR-727
This machine was the sister unit to the Tr-707, and provided a compliment of percussion/latin samples to go-with the TR-707 drum unit, matching the 707's styling exactly, with the same 8 multi-outs each with it's own fader to output the choosen pad/sound...Here's the sound list......
- Bongo hi
- Bongo lo
- Hi conga mute
- Hi conga open
- Lo conga
- Hi timbale
- Lo timbale
- Hi agogo
- Lo agogo
- Casaba
- Maracas
- Short whistle
- Whistle
- Long whistle
- Quijada
- Starchime
You get the same TR style programming interface with the 16 bottons in a row..... great !!.... but again, these early TR pcm-sample units DONT send midi note data as far as I remeber...... so it's clock to midi only for patterns I think.......... can be picked up real cheap... quite cheezy by todays sample standards..... but a classic likkle box nonetheless....... retro stylee..... comments please.....

The 727 is a fun little box to play with. Most of the percussion sounds arn't that bad, and it comes in real handy for adding a harder or tribal feel to your standard trance or house beats. Add a little reverb to it, and maybe even a touch of flange or delay, and it can sound quite nice. Plus the chasing red lights of the sequencer always look tight when your playing out at some party. In some situations it can also be a useful Master sync device, since the 727 (and the 707) transmit both MIDI and DIN sync at the same time while in internal clock mode.

Actually both the 707 and 727 DO send midi note data! you can even assign the notes.. though you need the manual to access the mode to do it. Thus making them usable as midi step sequencers. On top of that they also have 1 trigger out as well as a DIN SYNC output (which unfortunatly does NOT work when the device is slaved..)
I used a 727 for some time as my master clock / sequence / sync box.. running my 606 , juno 06 and triggering via the multi-outs a simmons style drum synth..
For the daring certain modifications can be made to these to create some very interesting sounds..
